Supabase student discount: the short answer
No student discountNo. Supabase has no student or academic discount. No student programme, but the Free plan is generous enough that most students never need one: $0/month with unlimited API requests, 50,000 monthly active users, a 500 MB Postgres database (shared CPU, 500 MB RAM), 5 GB egress plus 5 GB cached egress, 1 GB file storage and community support. The limit that catches students out is two active projects, and projects are paused after one week of inactivity, which will bite you if a coursework project sits untouched between deadlines. No credit card is required. Pro is $25/month per organisation, Team $599/month, Enterprise custom.

- What students can do
- Supabase's pricing page contains no mention of student, academic, education or university pricing, and Supabase does not appear in the GitHub Student Developer Pack offer list (verified against education.github.com/pack/offers). Supabase's founding 2020 pricing blog post did state a goal of continuing to offer free projects for students and hobbyists, and a co-founder once mentioned university students getting base-tier usage, but there is no documented application process today, so a student should plan around the Free plan and email support only if a class deployment genuinely needs more.

Free Tier
Free is a price, and in the backend & database space it is worth naming what that price is in practice: an account tied to your details, a cap on what you can take back out, and on some products an attribution line or watermark on what you produce. On Supabase's freemium plan the free tier is the shop window, so read what the paid step actually removes before assuming the no-cost version is the finished product. For coursework the non-money cost that bites hardest is getting work back out: confirm you can export a finished piece in a format your marker, your group, and whatever you write in next can all open, before a semester of work lives inside it.
Academic Discount
Two questions matter more here than Supabase's headline student rate. First, does the discount reach the parts coursework actually needs, or only the entry tier: shared documents, and enough capacity to finish a term without hitting a ceiling the night before a deadline. Second, does each person on a group project need their own verified account, because a per-person academic rate changes the arithmetic on a four-person submission entirely. Its open-source and database focus is where Supabase earns its place in your backend & database workflow, so test the discounted plan on that work rather than on a sample. Its freemium tier may cover a solo workload already, which makes the academic rate worth claiming only once group work outgrows it.

The part students underestimate is the end of the term rather than the start: notes, drafts and project files accumulate inside Supabase for months, and pulling them back out is a different job from putting them in. Before routing a semester of coursework through any backend & database tool, open its export option once and confirm you can retrieve your own material in a plain format you will still be able to read after you graduate. Its good privacy classification on Noizz is a reasonable starting signal for how that material is treated while it sits there. On a freemium plan, check what happens to stored work if you drop back to the free tier after a paid month.
Collaboration
Group work is where a tool stops being a personal choice, because everyone on the project has to be able to open the thing. Before you build a group assignment around Supabase, find out whether your collaborators need their own account, whether that account has to be a paid one, and what somebody without it actually sees. On a freemium plan, seats for collaborators are a common upgrade trigger, so settle that before the group commits. Agree who holds the shared copy before deadline week, because a file locked inside one person's account the night before a hand-in is the classic way a group loses an evening.

Compare on NoizzAlternatives
The useful way to shortlist against Supabase runs backwards from the obvious one: name the single thing you cannot give up before you open any list of rivals, then hold every other backend & database option against that one line. Supabase concentrates on open-source and database, so a genuine alternative either serves that same need more precisely or covers ground Supabase leaves open. Research two candidates properly rather than skimming eight, because a shortlist you have actually tested beats a long list you only read about. Our comparison pages cover named backend & database rivals in more detail when you reach that stage.
