Encryption claims about Onfido deserve to be unpacked before they reassure you, because "encrypted" on a marketing page can mean several things of very different value. Transport encryption protects data moving between you and the service; storage encryption protects it at rest; and key custody decides who can actually read it, the vendor, or only you. That last distinction carries the most weight and gets the least explanation, so go to the product's own security documentation and find the answer in writing before you route anything sensitive through it.

A technology product having reported vulnerabilities is not automatically a red flag; having no visible way to report one is. Look for whether Onfido publishes a security contact or disclosure policy and whether past issues were acknowledged and fixed openly, because that pattern predicts how the next issue will be handled better than any current clean record does.

Independent review is the difference between a security claim and a verified one. Check whether Onfido has published any third-party audit or assessment, when it was done, and crucially what scope it covered, an audit of one component is often quoted as though it covered the whole product. Recency matters as much as existence.

Security defaults exist to get you signed up quickly, not to protect you long term, so a handful of habits will do more for Onfido than hunting for one perfect setting. Turn on two-factor authentication the moment it is offered rather than treating it as optional, use credentials you are not reusing anywhere else, and grant it only the access it actually needs to function rather than everything it asks for. Revisit that connected-access list every few months, since permissions tend to accumulate quietly and nobody prunes them on their own. Noizz rates its privacy posture poor, and that figure is a floor to build on, not a substitute for doing the above.
